Hinamatsuri
Hinamatsuri is a Japanese festival celebrated on March 3rd to wish for the health and happiness of young girls. It is also known as Girls’ day.
The main symbol of Hinamatsuri is the hina doll, which is a set of dolls that represent the imperial family: the emperor, empress and their servants. The dolls are dressed in traditional Japanese clothing and are placed in a hinadan (doll stand).
HInamatsuri is also celebrated with other traditional foods and decorations. The most popular goods include hina arare (colorful rice crackers), Hishimoch (three-colored rice cakes), and Chirashizushi.
Hinamatsuri is a special day for young girls in Japan. It is a time to celebrate the arrival of spring and to wish for girls’ happiness and good fortune. Girls in rich family wear kimonos and decorate their homes with hina dolls and invite their friends to show them off!
