asparagus
Asparagus is a perennial plant, which means it comes back year after year. But we only eat the young shoots of the plant in the spring, when they're nice and tender. If you let them grow really tall, they turn into feathery ferns!
Examples:
- Be careful not to overcook the asparagus.
- I love dipping my asparagus in a creamy lemon sauce.
- Did you know asparagus is a relative of lilies and tulips?
