Verb

As a verb, "deafen" means to cause someone or something to lose their ability to hear or to make someone or something unable to hear. It can also refer to the act of rendering something or someone deaf by making a very loud or persistent noise. For example, if a person is exposed to loud noise for a prolonged period of time, it can deafen them over time.

In the context of communication applications or software, "deafen" means to disable audio from a specific user or group of users in a voice chat, as I explained in my previous response. This feature is often used as a way to temporarily or permanently block audio from a noisy or disruptive user or to maintain privacy during a conversation.

1. The sound of the jet engine was so loud that it deafened everyone on the tarmac.
2. The construction noise from next door was so deafening that I had to put on noise-cancelling headphones to focus on my work.
3. In the voice chat, I had to deafen my friend because they were playing loud music and disrupting the conversation.
