canter

canter

verb

The word "canter" is used to describe a way that horses run. It's a bit like a gallop, but not quite as fast. When a horse is cantering, it moves its legs in a certain pattern - it lifts one front leg, then the opposite back leg, then the other front leg, and finally the opposite back leg again. This creates a smooth and rhythmic movement that can be really fun to ride!

Example

  1. The horse began to canter across the field, its mane flying in the wind.
  2. She was still learning to ride, but managed to keep the horse at a steady canter.
