December

December

Noun

December is the twelfth and final month of the Gregorian calendar, which is widely used around the world as the standard calendar. It has 31 days and it is known for being the last month of the year. The name "December" comes from the Latin word "decem," which means "ten," as it was originally the tenth month in the ancient Roman calendar. However, when the calendar was reformed, January and February were added to the beginning of the year, making December the twelfth month. In the Northern Hemisphere, December is associated with the winter solstice, which usually occurs around December 21 or 22, marking the shortest day of the year and the beginning of winter. In many cultures, December is a month of celebrations, including Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and New Year's Eve.
