[Grade 3] Science 004-2 – How to Make a Rubber Band-Powered Car

How to Make a Rubber Band-Powered Car

1. Gather Your Materials

  • An empty plastic beverage bottle
  • Rubber band
  • Straw
  • Bamboo skewer or any thin rod (for the axles)
  • Plastic lids (or any small items that can be used as wheels)
  • Scissors
  • Adhesive or tape

2. Prepare the Axles

Attach the straw to the side of the bottle; this will act as the housing for your axles.

3. Attach the Wheels

Place the plastic lids on each end of the bamboo skewer or thin rod to serve as wheels. Ensure that the wheels can rotate freely.

4. Attach the Rubber Band

Tie one end of the rubber band securely to one end of the skewer or rod.

5. Wind Up the Rubber Band

Pull the rubber band and wind it around the other end of the bottle. Make sure the rubber band is tight enough.

6. Let it Go and Watch it Move!

Place the car on a flat surface, release the tension in the rubber band, and watch as the car moves forward.
