Tennis

What is Tennis?

Tennis is a game played on a place called a "court," where players hit the ball back and forth over a net.

When the ball lands in the opponent's court, points are scored!

Number of Players

Tennis can be played one-on-one, called "singles," or with two players on each side, called "doubles."

Tool

  1. Ball: A small, yellow, bouncy ball.
  2. Racket: Long handle and a big flat part at the end that you use to hit the ball.
  3. Shoes: Tennis shoes have special features like good grip on the court surface,
lateral support to help with quick side-to-side movements, and cushioning for comfort.
  4. Clothing: Comfortable clothing suitable for movement.
Some players wear caps, wristbands, and headbands to stay comfortable and keep sweat away.

Court

The rectangular court has a "net" in the middle and is divided into areas like the "service box" and the "baseline."

Basic Rules

  • Serve: To start each point by hitting the ball from behind their baseline over the net and into the opponent's service box on the opposite side of the court.
  • Rally: After the serve, the players or teams hit the ball back and forth over the net.
The goal is to make it hard for the other player or team to hit the ball back.
  • Volley: A specific type of shot where a player hits the ball before it bounces on the court.
  • In and Out: A ball that lands outside the court's lines is considered "out," and the player who hit it loses the point.
If the ball lands on the line, it's still considered "in."
  • Scoring: The scores are "love" (zero points), "15," "30," and "40." When the server wins a point, the score changes from love to 15, and so on.
If both players or teams have 40 points, it's called "deuce."
To win the game from deuce, you need to win two points in a row.
The first point after deuce is called "advantage," and the second point wins the game.
